PDF tables to CSV
Aoken Extract finds the tables in a PDF, a scan or a photo of a page and gives you each one as a CSV file. Load it into a spreadsheet, a database or your accounting software.
Convert a PDFWhat the CSV looks like
- One file per table. A table that continues on the next page stays one table, with the header once, as its first row.
- Amounts are plain numbers, with a dot for decimals, no currency signs and no thousands separators. Negative amounts keep their minus sign.
- Comma separated, UTF-8. The file starts with a byte order mark, so Excel shows accented letters and non-Latin text correctly. Cells with commas, quotes or line breaks are quoted.
- Dates become YYYY-MM-DD when the day, month and year are clear, so they sort correctly. Otherwise they are copied as printed. Text is copied as written, in any language.
Prefer a spreadsheet? Every table can also be downloaded as an Excel (XLSX) file, with amounts stored as numbers.
Check before you download
Each table is shown in a preview first, with anything doubtful flagged:
- A row labelled Total that does not equal the sum of the amounts above it.
- Text in a column of amounts, and rows with the wrong number of cells.
- Readings that were unclear, such as a smudged figure on a scan, with a short note.
Not sure your PDF has a text layer? Check it free in your browser. Scans work too: see how scans are read.
